Substrate has been vibing on the decks, bringing hard, bass dropping music to the dance floor, since 1999. This intuitive DJ started out as a drummer in hard metal bands, always knowing he belonged in front of a crowd. He was into the electronic sounds in rock that were beginning to become a staple from Soul Coughing, NIN, Skinny Puppy, and KMFDM. Later friends that were into trance and breakbeats took him to see DJ ICEY on his “Generate” album tour in 1999, and this changed his whole life.

As the music overloaded all his senses, he was instantly taken aback as the dance floor exploded into a sea of fluid movement, yet individualized to each person. Looking over the massive crowd of dancers across the venue, after sneaking into the booth with ICEY, his whole body was screaming at him, telling him that this was his calling, his destiny. Not long after, he was introduced to Dieselboy’s Soldier Story album and he was immediately hooked on the drum’n’bass/Jungle vibe and how it made the feelings inside him stir.

His infatuation for the dark, nasty side of music was reborn in Drum & Bass/Jungle, forever changing his life. He started his DJing career as “DJ PYREXX” on vinyl records and starting getting booked all across the southeastern seaboard. He opened for many old school legendary DJs such as ODI, Eric Beretta, soulslinger, Danny the Wildchild keoki, ..etc, living a cazy, wild, and fun life.

In 2013 his 6 year old son begged him to buy gear and teach him the dynamics to being a DJ. It sparked the fire in him all over again! He was rebranded “SubStrate” and has been building the brand ever since. He has recently opened up for NC-17, LionDub, ODI, Mob Tactics, Klute, Halogenix, Mampi Swift, Rude Operator, DJ Throwdown as well as many others, continuing his upward progression in his musical career. “A substrate is a manipulatable surface…. I manipulate the music, The music manipulates the crowd and the crowd manipulates me therefore… I AM SubStrate!
